Drug Uses
Leflunomide is basically prescribed for reducing symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used to enhance physical working and to prevent from the structural damage to the the patient’s joints.

 

How Taken
Consult you doctor regarding the suitable dosage for you. Usually Leflunomide could be taken with or without a meal and may take around 4 weeks or more to get improved while taking Leflunomide.

 

Missed Dose
If somehow you missed the dose, then immediately take that dose after you remember. However if you get to the nearby time for next dose, skip taking the Missed Dose and continue with your dose taking schedule. Do remember that you never exceed the intake of dose to compensate you missed dosage previously.

 

Storage
The storage criteria is that do keep the product away from heat, moisture and light and make sure that the temperature of the place where you will keep the product must be at room temperature around 77 °F that means 25 °C. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 – 86 °F that means 15 – 30 °C is permitted. Make sure that children cannot get in touch with it.

Leflunomide should not be used by pregnant women or likely to get pregnant in near future. Unless women who have taken Leflunomide go through a certain process to remove this medicine from their body, pregnancy must be avoided for at least 2 years after use of Leflunomide has stopped. Never even share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Never use this medicine for other health problems. Contact your doctor immediately if your symptoms are getting more worse.

Warnings/Precautions
Consult your doctor if you have any medical complications before taking Leflunomide, especially if you are allergic to medicines, foods, or other substances, have a weakened immune system, blood or bone marrow disorders, have recently taken vaccine, having hapatitis B or C, liver or kidney problems, alcoholic drinking, if you are pregnant or getting pregnant or are breast–feeding the baby. Leflunomide may even cause harmful effects to the fetus, so not use while pregnancy. Pregnancy test conducted before the start of treatment with Leflunomide must be negative. After completing therapy, women of childbearing potential who are getting pregnant or likely to get pregnant must undergo a procedure to flush out any remaining medicine of the body system. It is unknown if Leflunomide passes into breast milk or not. This medicine can result into the birth defects in children of men taking Leflunomide. Discuss the use of birth control methods like condoms with your doctor while taking Leflunomide. Consult with your doctor regarding the stopping of Leflunomide if you and your partner are planning for parenthood. Some medicines may have an interaction with Leflunomide, thus, consult your doctor regarding all prescription or nonprescription medicines, herbals, or diet supplements that you have been taking. Never take Leflunomide while drinking alcohol because it may increase the risk of liver problems. Remember that you must avoid vaccination while taking Leflunomide. Discuss with your doctor immediately if you got skin rash, small blisters on the body, or lesions around the eyes, mouth, or throat. Make sure that you keep all doctor and lab appointments ready. Leflunomide should not be applied on children younger than 18 years because safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed yet.

Possible Side Effects
Side Effects are listed as follows- Back pain, bronchitis, diarrhea, dizziness, dry skin, hair loss, severe headache, coughing, indigestion, joint pain, loss of appetite, muscular aches, nausea, runny nose, sinus infection, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, vomiting, weakness, weight loss. Contact your doctor immediately if  you get any of these side effects. If you get any of the following side effects, you should go for medical attention immediately like rash, hives, itching, breathing problems, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, blistering or peeling skin, blisters on the inside of eyes, nose, or mouth, chest pain, dark urine, bleeding, numbness feeling or tingling, fever, infection, muscle cramps, pale skin, pale stools, sore throat, stomach pain, unexpected tiredness, getting pale of the eyes or skin
